Hello! Just a couple days ago I got to interview someone for my very first time for a project I've been working on in school! So, let me begin by explaining what my project is before I go into any detail about the interview. For my project, I got to choose a topic of my choice to study between the months of last August, all the way to this March. I chose Foods From Around the World; I get to cook meals from four different countries; Israel, Iceland, France, and Italy. Not only do I have to learn how to cook these different foods, but I have to learn the fundamentals of Food Safety and learn all kinds of tips on becoming a better chef. So to help me better understand, I got to interview one of my best friend's dad, Chef Jason Chaney.
I got to ask around 25 different questions, but because this interview nearly took an hour, I'll list my top 8 favorite. The first question I asked to kick of the interview was "What's your favorite part about being a chef?" and Chef Jason said he enjoyed creating something out of nothing. By the way, I thought Chef Jason was an amazing first interviewee, because he was thorough when it came to answering questions, and he went into great detail! Now, to be continued, I also asked him "What made you want to become a chef?" and Chef Jason said that he had very good cooks in his family, who cooked great Mediterranean food. For the third question I asked him "What's your favorite part about being a chef?" and Chef Jason replied "Everyday is something different..." and he explained how it takes grit and perseverance to get through the challenging, yet rewarding day. Which leads us to the next question, "What is the hardest part about being a chef?" Chef Jason replied, "... being a chef can be physically demanding..." and he also explained how you have to work long hours throughout the day, without sitting down, except for lunch or dinner. Now for the fifth question I asked "Do you think your job has changed you?" and he gave a definite yes, because of his long, hard hours during work. I also asked Chef Jason, "Which chef do you most admire?" and he told me the names of many chefs I've never heard of him "...well there's Charlie Trotter, Grant Ackits, Hosea Andres, Marco Piere...". For the next question I asked him "What's a key aspect you believe all chefs should remember?" and Chef Jason said "You have to remember what you're doing it for", which I believe is something all people should be reminded of. And for my final question to wrap up the interview was "What should all future chefs known?" and Chef Jason responded how people should know what they're getting themselves into as they enter the culinary world as a chef and how hard it is.
This interview went so well and I am so grateful to Chef Jason for taking his time to answer my questions! Thank you so much everyone for reading my blog, I hope you enjoyed, and if you have any more questions about how my interview went, contact me at Floralandfondant@yahoo.com, with the subject of INTERVIEW.
