Mother's Day Sunflower Cake

I just received a cake order for Mother's Day (shout out to all mothers to have a great Mother's Day), for a special Sunflower Cake. I had originally planned to pipe the sunflowers by hand, but since I didn't have enough experience with piping petals/flowers, I decided to take the safer route and create these bright and sunny flowers using fondant. In the end this sunflower cake turned out super good especially with the fondant sunflowers. If I could see the outcome of both of these results, I would most definitely pick this gorgeous Sunflower Cake!

This Sunflower Cake was also extremely simple to make with no frustration added! However, I would recommend not letting the fondant sit out for more than 15 minutes, because the fondant I used dried quickly, causing the flowers to crack as I put them on the cake.

I made the sunflowers using sunflower cutouts, and layering them twice to give them a 3-dimensional look, which they turned out exactly as I wanted. I got the cutouts form my local Walmart which was pretty surprising considering Walmart isn't really known to have lots of baking supplies. I also brushed a bit of golden food spray, and water to make the sunflowers have a warm glowing effect, to make the sunflower look brighter!

For the flavor of this bright and sunny cake, I decided to go with a nice sunny lemon yellow! I mean why not add to the sunny vibe, especially since lemon is a flavor you can never go wrong with? As for the size of this cake, my clients wanted it to be small so I made two six inch round cakes, which turned out to be the perfect size for these wonderful sunflowers to go on it. With all these wonderful bright and sunny elements combined, they made the perfect dazzling sunflower cake.

Thank you for reading my blog on my Mother's Day Sunflower Cake!Have a sunny day!
