Creamy Cream Cheese Oreo Cookie Cake

Just yesterday, I had received a cake order for a friend who absolutely loves Oreos. This cake however was not just any cake, but a birthday cake, so I knew I had to do something special. So I thought "Why not go big with using the Oreos?", and that's exactly what I did.

For the cake itself I tiered 3, 8" rounds (which I find the perfect size for parties and special occasions) and I used my vanilla cake recipe except I added some crushed up Oreos. Also just a tip when crushing up the Oreos for the cake, you don't necessarily need these cookies obliterated to pixel-sized crumbs, but just enough to bring texture to the cake and not mess up the consistency of the batter. With the cakes baking in the oven, I began the buttercream.

I used a cream cheese frosting since I thought it would pair perfectly with the creamy, crunchy Oreos. I use this frosting because it seems to go well with almost every cake I've baked and because it's ever so pipeable! As for the Oreos I crushed for the frosting, I made sure they were more fine so that the chunks of the Oreos wouldn't ruin the way I smoothed out the cake in the end. I also saved enough white frosting so I could add the dollops for toppers of the cake.

I also decided to whip up a quick chocolate mousse to put in between the cake layers to enhance that extra taste of chocolate and sweetness. I thought it would also add the perfect balance that would be needed for the perfect bite into this cake.

With all three cakes out of the oven, the frosting ready, and the mousse chilled and ready to go, I began the art of putting the cake together. First I tiered the cakes while putting the mousse in between the layers. Then I crumb-coated the cake, chilled it, then frosted the final layer.

After I had the base of the cake all put together, I began making a dark chocolate ganache so I could make the intricate drip design for the cake. I decided to use dark chocolate because I didn't want to much overpowering sweetness after I had already added the mousse.

Next I dripped the ganache along the sides of the cake, then I added the final swirls of the white frosting I had previously saved. I also did a rim of half-cut oreos around the bottom so you couldn't see where the ganache started to spread. And to top it all off I put sprinkles throughout the top of the cake while adding Oreos all throughout the center of the cake!

I absolutely loved every step of the process of baking this cake and decorating it, as well as adding a new unique flavor and using the Oreos. I would like to thank everyone who has read this blog, and I can't wait to write about my next cak order!
